Calacatta Violet | OPP21

Calacatta Viola marble is a prestigious marble of Apuan origin used in numerous buildings since Roman times. It was widely used by Cosimo I de ‘Medici, lord of Florence who had the monopoly of the Seravezza quarries, and made it the symbol of his power by having it used in the choir of the Florence Cathedral, in Palazzo Pitti and in the Medici Chapels. It is a marble with a more or less clean white background and purplish arabesques. Sometimes the purple color of the veins fades towards pink and green with golden flashes, typical of Vagli marbles.
